LCP™ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Leadership Capacity Program?
Different than traditional leadership development programs, LCP™ is an innovative, transformative leadership experience that helps executives overcome a chronic lack of capacity to achieve their goals, drive sustainable organizational performance, and maintain key relationships – professionally and personally.
LCP combines years of research and ‘real’ engagement with executives and their teams around the world with a proven approach and advanced toolset designed to address each leader’s unique needs, capabilities and situational context.
Delivered exclusively by accredited LCP Coaches, the program creates the capacity leaders need to successfully tackle the challenges in their organizations as well as in their personal relationships.
Who is LCP™ for?
LCP is for CEOs and senior leaders who want to find greater capacity to drive a culture of lasting performance within their organization.
Whether they are CEOs under pressure to perform, or leaders who have been promoted and need to manage greater expectations, or aspiring leaders who want to make a mark – LCP will set them on a new trajectory.
What do you mean by “leadership capacity”?
Leaders are always looking for ways to get ahead, to increase productivity, and to grow a culture conducive to sustained performance. However, many leaders operate at a significant capacity deficit affecting strategy to execution, profitability, and sustainability, attracting and retaining talent, to key relationships—professional and personal.
Based on 5 Leadership Anchors™, LCP equips leaders to identify roadblocks to achieving optimal capacity, and empowers them to develop the strategies they need to address goals and desired outcomes that are in conflict.
How long does it take to complete the coaching process using LCP™?
LCP does not dictate the length of the coaching engagement per se. It does, however, have a very specific 90-day focus that seeks to bring a leader’s goals into alignment to ensure success. Accredited coaches use LCP as the foundation for the coaching process, whether it is a 90-day, 6 month or 12-month engagement.
Why is there such a strong focus on 90 days?
LCP believes that 90 days presents clients with the minimum amount of time to consolidate new patterns of behavior and reinforce key learnings. The timeframe allows for the clients to take steps towards letting go of things that don’t support their goals and empowers them to create a new trajectory for them, and their organization. 90 days gives greater focus and impetus for change.
Is the program only for individuals or can a group utilize it?
The program is designed for use with individual clients or executives along with their leadership teams. When used for teams, each individual receives their own confidential LCP Journal.
How is the program delivered?
LCP is delivered by experienced, insightful LCP Coaches who have been accredited to deliver the program.
The program starts with clients completing the LCP Online Assessment at their own pace through a series of strategic questions. Once completed, clients receive a personal LCP Journal tailored. After this, the coaching engagement is initiated.
Is there a book or other materials required for the program?
Everything the client needs is in their personal LCP Journal, including a comprehensive list of resources they can explore further to address specific leadership challenges. There are also opportunities for clients to integrate into their Online LCP Assessment, insights from other assessments (e.g. StrengthFinders, MBTI, LSI, performance evaluations, 360-Degree Feedback, etc.) they have previously completed.
How much does LCP™ cost?
LCP is often delivered by coaches and organizations as part of a broader enterprise-wide leadership initiative, where LCP is seamlessly integrated and yet foundational to the coaching process. Fees will vary across global territories, and be influenced by how LCP is used.
Outward Looking provides LCP at a wholesale price based on volume, to coaching organizations, leadership coaches, and large enterprises (with internal LCP coaches). For more information, contact either your primary consultant or Outward Looking at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How is LCP™ different from other executive coaching or training programs?
LCP is unlike any other executive coaching or leadership training programs in the marketplace.
- It provides clients with a highly relevant and comprehensive snapshot of their immediate leadership context, their challenges, and impacts on their future trajectory—individually, and organizationally.
- Through a personally tailored LCP Journal, it provides clients and coaches with a rich source of information in a structured framework that could take up to 3-4 months to obtain with traditional programs.
- While leadership style and skill-based competency are important, LCP helps leaders carefully reflect on how their beliefs, assumptions, and behaviors affect their decisions and desired outcomes.
- It gives clients the skills and insight to align conflicting goals to achieve better outcomes. When a leader’s organizational, professional, and personal goals are in conflict, performance is compromised, resulting in a decline in employee engagement, burnout, and leadership turnover—which all negatively impact organizational performance.
- It captures client responses and reflects them back to the client in such a way that they are given the opportunity to look at those responses from a range of different perspectives not previously considered. In contrast, other programs translate or interpret client responses into a series of prescriptive statements.
- It gives clients the ability to assimilate a wealth of relevant information—historical (often forgotten) and current—by integrating data from various assessments, 360-Degree feedback and performance evaluations. In contrast, other programs collect information that is never assimilated or used.
- Clients have the flexibility to complete the Online LCP Assessment in their own time and less demanding environment. This flexibility provides them with greater opportunities for reflection and removes the tendency to submit prescriptive responses.
- The LCP Journal provides clients with instantly actionable data where growth can be measured and changes substantiated.
- This innovative program reduces administrative costs and improves program scalability for large enterprises by combining the Online LCP Assessment and tailored LCP Journal with a coaching process that can be delivered face-to-face or virtually..
- To simplify the collection and processing of information from busy executives and leaders, it uses world-class Infiniti smart web forms created, for faster, more efficient information capture. It is also mobile-device enabled.
How is success measured?
The testimonies of leaders who have gone through the program speak for themselves. Greater clarity on goals, improved motivation, ability to resolve long-standing conflicts that became roadblocks, less stress and more energy, improved and sustainable productivity and outcomes.
Tailored coaching solutions delivers clients with measurable outcomes based on the alignment of 5 leadership anchors™. Each anchor point provides leaders with a baseline for demonstrating how a leader’s capacity can be transformed when adopting these leadership anchors, compared to leaders who don’t have them as a foundation.
The success of the coaching engagement using LCP is evidenced by the client’s increased capacity and ability to achieve his/her 90-day goals. Outward Looking is also committed to ensuring the long-term efficacy of LCP, and its measurable impact on leadership and organizational performance.
Do LCP™ Coaches go through a formal training and accreditation process?
Yes. In order to maintain the integrity and the quality of LCP, all coaches must comply with the accreditation process and complete the 2-days of training. They each are required to have a minimum of 10 years experience working in senior leadership roles, and have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, MBA, or equivalent. Many have worked with senior leaders across different industry sectors, and have established highly successful businesses.
Why did Outward Looking create LCP™?
As a former psychologist and global executive, Glenn Williams, the founder and CEO of Outward Looking, has worked with leaders in more than twenty countries. He saw a need for a leadership solution that would directly address the issue of leaders becoming increasingly disillusioned with their role, with many operating with a significant “capacity” deficit.
Countless programs address areas like leadership style, competencies, and the ability to work with people. While these are extremely important, leadership challenges didn’t go away, and leaders continued to grow disillusioned about their role and the many stresses that resulted from that.
Glenn observed that many of their lives were out of control—and in too many instances, so were their organizations. They became frustrated at not being able to perform at a level they expected of themselves, and the stress and anxiety of not being able to do what they needed to do, negatively affected their relationships—personally, and professionally. Overwhelmed, isolated, and unable to “turn off”, organizational performance suffered, and became a perpetual cycle—more stress, less capacity, broken relationships, and poor corporate performance.
The other thing that alarmed Glenn, was the fact that as leaders rise through the ranks, the poorer their social connections became, affecting their effectiveness and longevity as leaders due to health concerns, stress, and relational issues.
He started looking for a catalyst for change, and an innovative, yet proven approach. Having completed his doctoral work exploring the relationship between leadership character and performance, Glenn decided it was time to develop a program that was different to any other.
The Leadership Capacity Program (LCP) became that catalyst for change. Incorporating all of the unique characteristics of the program listed above, Outward Looking recognized the need for a valid, evidence-based framework coaches could use to measure quality outcomes for leaders.
In total, how many executives have gone through the program to-date?
More than 200 leaders and executives from ten countries have gone through this transformative leadership experience.
Is LCP™ based on any particular research or theory?
LCP™ uses a strengths-based and cognitive-reflective approach in constructing a personalized LCP journal, that relies on a decision-oriented evaluation method.
This method utilizes a systematic approach that evaluates how clients organize their decisions around 5 Leadership Anchors™. Its efficacy is demonstrated by measuring change in terms of intellectual capital (“the what” you know) and connectivity (“the who” you know), and their relationship to desired outcomes (performance).
A decision-oriented ‘Expert Recommender System’ (LCP™ online assessment) profiles clients’ expertise, competence, experience, and how these collectively influence leadership identity and behavior. With the help of an accredited LCP™ coach, the client is able to monitor performance of outputs and evaluate outcomes that reflect change of trend or behaviour over 90-Day coaching engagements.
Have any major companies established the program as a standard part of their executive training?
While LCP can be conducted successfully as a stand-alone program, it is often seamlessly integrated into well-established leadership development initiatives with an emphasis on succession, change-management, improving sales and/or service, and building leadership and organizational capacity in For-Profit and Not-For-Profit sectors alike.
In its relatively short history, LCP has been successfully implemented for groups of executives and leaders with a national media company in Malaysia, a regional leadership company in SE Asia, one of the largest privately owned pathology businesses throughout Asia, a national medical insurance company in SE Asia, and a global not-for-profit organization in the U.S.
In addition to these groups, LCP has been conducted for individual CEOs and senior leaders of more than 50 national and international companies.
How many LCP™ certified coaches are there?
Since launching LCP in November 2014, 25 LCP coaches have been accredited in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the USA.
